YMCA Annual Campaign

Troy Lawrence was cutting branches off of a friend’s tree in 2014 when he suffered a fall so bad, he was forced to have his right leg amputated from the knee down.

Rather than pitying himself, Troy made the most of his situation. He used the Y as a way to build up his strength. He lifted weights, used the cardio equipment and tried the TRX group exercise classes. He also competed in a Spartan Race in July 2016.

Before his accident he weighed 225 pounds. Now, he’s at an even 200, and that’s with his prosthetic leg on. Troy’s health even became good enough to be a kidney donor for his friend.

“It’s funny because I am probably the strongest and fittest I’ve ever been, and I’m missing parts,” Troy said.

He wants to be a role model for his four kids, “for them to look and see (their dad) never quit,” that he never complained, and he pushed on.

We have extraordinary opportunities to ensure a brighter future for our community, but we need your help. Your gift to the YMCA will have a lasting impact in the community by helping us to reach more people like Troy through life-changing programs and services.
