SilverSneakers® Splash
Activate your urge for variety! Splash offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. No swimming ability is required, and a SilverSneakers kickboard or other aquatic equipment is used to improve strength, balance and coordination.
Goals of the classes are to improve overall fitness, promote health education, especially as it relates to health status issues, and encourage social interaction in a group setting. The focus of the classes is to increase muscular strength and endurance and range of motion, resulting in functional improvements in posture, balance, weight transfer activities, coordination, agility and body awareness. Your instructors will receive training and follow-through offered by no other organization in the country. Older-adult instructor training courses, evaluations, continual feedback, and continuing education in older-adult fitness are standard in the curriculum.
Class Format: The classes are 45 minutes long, although they may range from 45 to 60 minutes depending on the skill level of the students.
The land-based classes are taught with a chair for seated and/or standing support. A chair must be available for every student in the class.
Classes are taught with a variety of resistance tools to be used according to the skill level of each individual student: one-pound to eight-pound hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles on each end, and a SilverSneakers ball. The SilverSneakers aquatic-based class, SilverSneakers Splash, is taught with a kickboard.
