Mitchell Early Childhood and Family Center

We would like to take this opportunity to update you on some very exciting news as it pertains to Apple Tree within the YMCA of Muncie. Over the course of the last year we have been finalizing details to an exciting new partnership that will strengthen our ability to serve the families of our community.

We are happy to report that the YMCA of Muncie and Ball State University will be integrating our early learning programs currently provided by Apple Tree YMCA and the Ball State Child Study Center. The new center will be moving to the former Mitchell Elementary school building this coming August.

The Mitchell Early Childhood and Family Center represents an exciting opportunity to provide a high-quality early learning environment for children from birth to age five who will benefit from its enhanced pre-K programming. Our hope is that the new Center will become a model of innovation and collaboration—both in terms of the quality of its child development opportunities and its ability to give new life to a building once bound for demolition. We are thankful to Ball State University for their significant investment of resources and talent to make this incredible opportunity happen for our community. Together, we are supporting families as we help our community thrive long-term.

All children currently enrolled in an Apple Tree program will have a place in the Mitchell Early Childhood and Family Center. It is our goal to make this transition as smooth as possible. There are no plans to change the current teaching staff. They are very excited to welcome the families they serve to the new center when it opens!

Until August, the Apple Tree Child Development Center and the Child Study Center will continue to operate independently. During the Center’s first year of operation, the two facilities will continue their normal programming while their staffs explore opportunities to leverage their combined resources to create an innovative approach to early childhood development. Enrollment in the programs is on a first-come, first-serve basis, with financial assistance available to those families that qualify.

There are still a number of details to finalize and we will provide more specific information in the coming weeks and months.

Thank you,
