Teen Programming

The YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen! From cradle to career, the Y empowers young people to lead inspired, successful lives! We are passionate about helping our youngest members develop lifelong habits for health and well-being in an environment which fosters becoming respectful, responsible, honest and caring individuals in order to develop into contributing members of the community.

Upcoming Program Dates

Teen Wellness Center Orientation

We are offering a Wellness Center Orientation at our YMCA branches. Teens will learn how to use resistance and cardio machines in the wellness center. We will also discuss overall gym etiquette.

This orientation is intended for teens 12-18. Ages 12-13 MUST have a wellness center orientation in order to use the wellness center at our branches.

Youth and Teen Engagement Spaces

Hours:
Mon- Fri: 8am-12pm & 3pm-8pm
Sat: 8am-12pm

This space is available for drop in use. Youth and Teens may stay in the Engagement spaces for a maximum of 2 hours per day. Youth and teens must be signed in and out by the same person unless other arrangements are made with the staff on duty. Parents/ Guardians MUST REMAIN within the YMCA building while their child is in our care.

Included in the space is a Nintendo Switch, art supplies and activities, board games, comfortable seating, and charging ports.

Ages 14-18 may utilize the space but must follow all guidelines and expectations.

Teen Rec Nights

September Teen Rec Nights: 2nd and 23rd from 5pm-9pm

Youth and Teens Age 10-18 may utilize the facility without a parent/guardian present. Free for members, $5 for Non members — Must register at the desk upon arrival.

Join us for a drop-in style Teen Rec Night, where you can choose your own fun! Whether you want to shoot hoops in the gym, challenge friends on the Nintendo Switch, dive into some board games, get creative with arts and crafts, or just hang out and relax, there's something for everyone aged 10-18 years. Non-member? That's ok! Stop at the desk and pay a $5 fee!

*There will be Engagement Mentor staff present for more supervision around the facility.

Middle School Youth and Government

Your Voice Matters - Understand the Process, Shape the Future. Students will learn basic knowledge of the legislative process, how to research and debate public issues, develop and strengthen leadership skills, social skills and more!

Middler Schoolers from Northside and Southside Middle School will meet once a month at the YMCA of Muncie from September to December 2025. To conclude our program, students will travel to Indianapolis in December for a State level meeting, where students will see firsthand the skills they have learned implemented in real-life.

Details

Meetings will take place the second Friday of every month from 5-6:30pm, beginning Fall 2025.

Lean In Girls

Details: For Girls 11-15 years, Wednesdays from 6-7pm, October 1st - November 12th

Through fun, interactive sessions, you’ll explore your strengths,

challenge stereotypes, and discover your own unique leadership style. Together, we’ll talk openly about confidence, bias, allyship, and how to create change while building a supportive community of peers.

Leader’s Club

OUR MISSION

The mission of Leaders Club is to expose teen leaders to a variety of experiences that foster their own personal growth and leadership development through a variety of ways. We plan to do this by having teens participate in regular club meetings and complete hours of service.

Some of the activities and services will include but are not limited to:

  • Guest speakers

  • Discussion and activities regarding money management, time management, organization, personal and electronic safety

  • Social emotional learning

  • Current topics and issues

  • Personal growth and goal setting

  • Character development

    Open to Middle Schoolers 6th – 8th grade at Southside Middle school!

    • Leaders Club will meet 2 times a month for a total of 2 hours time commitment a month.

    • Upcoming dates include: February 22nd & 29th, March 7th & 21st, April 11th & 25th, and May 9th & 23rd.

    • Club will meet at Southside Middle School.

    • $10 for Y members & $15 for non-members
